Vande Mataram awareness programme kickstarted in Goa

Panaji, Sep 25 (UNI) On the eve of Pandit Deendayal Upadhayaya Jayanti Former Petroluem minister and senior BJP leader Ram Naik today started a week-long 'All India Vande Mataram awarenss campaign' programme at a public meeting here in Vasco in south Goa.

In the three-day meet held recently at Dehradun BJP National Executive had decided to spread the message of Vande Mataram to every nook and corner of India. The programme starting today will conclude on October 2, on Gandhi Jayanti Day.

Mr Naik told mediapersons here that the centenary of the national song 'Vande Mataram' was celebrated with a great aplomb throughout India barring some opposition from certain quarters of the society.

Mr Naik said the Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh had appealed to the nation to sing Vande Mataram publicly.

However, when a microscopic section of the society opposed it saying that they would not sing it, the government succumbed to the pressure and Mr Arjun Singh declared that it would not be compulsory, Mr Naik said.

He said it was an act of national insult to Vande Mataram as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi failed to attend any public function.

However, Mr L K Advani, leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha stated that there would be no compromise on the symbols of national pride like Vande Mataram, Jana Gana Mana and National Flag, Mr Naik added.
