Thai coup leaders to yield power to prime minister

BANGKOK, Sep 25 (Reuters) Thailand's coup leaders will yield power to a civilian prime minister once an interim constitution is in place later this week, General Winai Phattiyakul said today.

''We will not be the prime minister's boss,'' said Winai, a senior member of the military council that ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra last Tuesday promising a replacement within two weeks and to step back once he was in place.

An interim constitution would be announced at the end of this week, then the military council would transform itself into ''a national security council'', Winai told reporters.
