Submit report on Juvenile Justice Act implementation: HC
Mumbai, Sep 25 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today directed the State Women and Child Health and Welfare Department to submit within four weeks a report on the action taken over implementing the Juvenile Justice Act 2000 A division bench, comprising Justices J N Patel and R S Dalvi, gave the direction while hearing a suo moto petition for juvenile justice filed in 1985.
The court asked the State to spell out the measures that had been taken after amending the Juvenile Act in 2000.
Chief public prosecutor Satish Borulkar told reporters that the State has to submit a report indicating what action has been taken against juvenile beggars and offenders, how many abandoned children have been rehabilitated and what kind of vocational training is being given to the neglected children living in protection homes run by the State.
Advocate Maharukh Adenwala told UNI that the court has asked the State if the infrastructure and institutions as prescribed by the Act have been provided to those in need. The case will come up for further hearing on October 23.
