Strike continues in Jipmer hospital
Puducherry, Sept 25 (UNI) Medical services at the centrally administered Jipmer hospital remained affected for the 18th day as the indefinite strike by the employees to protest the granting of autonomous status to the Institution continued.
The Jipmer employees held a dharna in front of the hospital, where BJP leader Lalitha Kumaramangalam addressed them and expressed full support of the party to the strike.
The hospital managed partial service with the available employees.
Meanwhile, the Puducherry State Government employees today extended their full support to the striking Jipmer staff in a bid to intensify the agitation.
Addressing a press conference here, General Secretaries of the Puducherry State Government Employees Federation and Confederation of the Puducherry State Government Employees Association Seshachalam and Anandaraj said the 25,000 Government employees would support the cause of the Jipmer employees.
They said the Government employees would go on a mass casual leave tomorrow and participate in the bandh called by the Jipmer anti-conversion Peoples Action Committee(PAC).
They charged the Jipmer administration for rejecting the proposal of Chief Minister N Rangasamy to bring the strike to an end. The Jipmer administration was adopting a suppressive attitude towards the employees and cases were registered against 100 employees, 50 were suspended and five terminated.
Besides these, the employees were being threatened by rowdies and anti-socials. The actions of the Jipmer administration was totally unwarranted and need to be condemned, they added.
