PAC to observe bandh tomorrow to protest autonomy to JIPMER

Puducherry, Sept 25(UNI) A dawn to dusk bandh will be observed here tomorrow by the JIPMER anti-conversion Peoples Action Committee(PAC) comprising some political parties, to protest against the granting of autonomous status to the centrally administered institution here.

The JIPMER employees are on an indefinite strike for the past 18 days to press the union cabinet to revoke its decision on granting autonomy the institute.

The political parties such as CPI(M), AIADMK, BJP, RSP, among others, have called upon all sections of the society to support the bandh tomorrow to make it a sucess. Meanwhile, the ruling Congress-led front had appealed to withdraw the bandh proposal, citing that granting of autonomy will in no way affect the employees or the patients.

Meanwhile, the Government employees also expressed support to the striking JIPMER employees and said the 25,000 Government employees would go on a mass casual leave tomorrow to take part in the bandh.

Police were making elaborate security arrangements to maintain law and order during the bandh and to prevent any untoward incident.
