No boycott threat to military Games: CISM

Hyderabad, Sept, 25 (UNI)Dismissing speculation of a possible boycott, the World Council for Military Games (CISM) President Brigadier Gola Gianni Gola today said he was confident that all the 123 member-countries will participate in the fourth edition of the event to be held here from October 14 to 21 next year.

Talking to newspersons, Brig Gola said ''All the member countries are eagerly looking forward for the Games. The question of a boycott does not arise.'' ''In fact, there has been a tremondous increase in the number of participants in edition of the Games so far. This time more than 6000 athletes are expected to participate in 15 sports disciplines for both men and women'', he said.

The theme of the Games is 'freindship through sports' he added.

Earlier, Brig Gola, Secretary General of CISM Col Van Meurs, alongwith Lt Gen Ashok Kapur, Chief of Staff, Indian Army, Maj Gen V K Ahluwalia, Director General of Military Training, Rear Admiral D K Dewan, Comander SC Joshi, Secretary General Military World Games Secretariat, Brig D S C Varma, Commander, Sub Area Andhra Pradesh called on J Harinarayana, Chief Secretry of Andhra Pradesh and held discussions on the progress of arrangements for Games.

They appreciated the steps taken by Andhra Pradesh governament in making arrangements for organisation of the games and accomodation.

Of the 15 disciplines, two events Sailing and Triathlon would be held in Mumbai while the remaining 13 disciplines Military Pentathlon, Shooting, Parachuting, Football, Handball, Volleyball, Swimming, Track and Field, Judo, Boxing, Wrestling, including two demonstration disciplines Hockey and Kabaddi would be held in Hyderabad.
