Jeev, Randhawa, Atwal jump, Kapur slips in golf rankings

New Delhi, Sep 25 (UNI) Another top-10 finish in Japan Tour saw Jeev Milkha Singh cementing his place as the top-ranked Indian player even as compatriots Jyoti Randhawa and Arjun Atwal also gained places in the latest golf rankings announced today.

UBS Asian Tour Order of the Merit leader Jeev, who finished tied eighth in the Acom International tournament yesterday, gained three places and was 141st with 1.18 average points.

Jyoti Randhawa (1.10), who is due to play in World Golf Championship-American Express, also climbed four rungs to 154th despite a week of inactivity.

For the Orlando (Ga)-based Arjun Atwal, who finished tied 21st in the Texas Open yesterday, gained five spots to 216th with 0.79 average points. Atwal's late recovery in the tournament also boosted up his chances to secure a USPGA card for another season.

Only notable casualty this week was Shiv Kapur (.94) and the hugely talented Indian, who along with Gaurav Ghei failed to qualify for the World Cup to be played in Barbados, slipped three spots to 175 in the leaderboard.

Meanwhile, Tiger Woods has held the World No. 1 position for a total of 410 weeks and has a lead over fellow American Phil Mickelson, who retains the second spot this week, of 13.36 average points.

Europe might have pipped the US to win the prestigious Ryder Cup but the latter continues to dominate when it comes to rankings.
