ICC for stronger links between India, USA

Kolkata, Sep 25: Premier industrial body Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) is planning to strengthen the economic and business ties between India and USA by exchanging delegations and missions to foster the bilateral relationship.

ICC intends to bring together business leaders, policy makers, legislators, academicians and Americans of Indian origin from both countries to strengthen the economic dimension of the bilateral relationship, chamber's president S K Bangur told newsmen here.

The delegations and missions would be exchanged on specific areas like biotechnology and pharmaceuticals partnering with the Consulate General of USA here to work jointly on HIV/AIDS, Mr Bangur said.

ICC is also keen to include West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee in the delegations to US and had already initiated talks with him, he said.

Besides, stressing on agri-business development in the state, the chamber would focus and develop the chemicals and petrochemicals sector by involving the Centre, he said.

Mr Bangur said the chamber had also initiated studies on the export and investment climate to accelerate the economic developments of the state.
