I will come clean in son's admission case: Puri

Bhopal, Sept 25: Senior IPS officer Swaraj Puri, who was removed as Director General of Madhya Pradesh Police, today said he will come clean on the charges levelled against him for securing admission under the NRI quota for his son in an engineering college of Indore.

''The charges were baseless and the truth will come out,''I will come clean in son's admission case: Puri Mr Puri told reporters here after assuming charge as Director General of Home Guards.

''I have faith in the system and truth will triumph'', he added.

Mr Puri clarified that he was not the ADG (Intelligence) at the time of his son's admission to the college, nor did he change his father's name at any time. ''In the admission application form, my son had mentioned his NRI-sponsor as his grandfather'', he said, adding the facts could be verified from records.

Mr Puri said he would give priority to the welfare of Home Guard jawans and give them more facilities. The jawans would be imparted skills in disaster management and their services would be made known throughout the country, he added.

Mr Puri was removed as DGP three days ago after a criminal case for cheating and Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against him, his son Shreyas and Indore businessman Babulal Somani for presenting fake documents to facilitate his son's admission under NRI quota in Indore's Shri Govindram Seksaria Institute of Technology and Science in 2001. His son had passed out of the institute early this year.

The Economic Offences Wing of the police registered the case on the directive of the sessions court of Indore. Mr Anand Rao Pawar took charge as the new DGP on Saturday.
