HC exempts UP chief secretary from personal presence
Allahabad, Sep 25 (UNI) Allahabad High Court today exempted the personal presence of Uttar Pradesh chief secretary Naveen Chandra Bajpai and urban development principal secretary A K Verma from a contempt case.
Justice D P Singh passed the order on a contempt petition filed by Rakesh Kumar Singh, who had prayed for punishing the authorities for not holding the local bodies elections in UP, despite the December 2005 HC order.
The court exempted the personal presence of both the officials after being satisfied with their affidavits.
Appearing for the state government, advocate general S M A Kazmi contended that in compliance of HC order, UP had issued notification for holding the polls.
An affidavit was filed regarding the compliance of HC order.
The court has asked the petitioner to file a rejoinder affidavit.
The court will hear the case on October 5.
