Hazare threatens agitation if RTI comm not appointed
Nagpur, Sep 25: Noted social activist Anna Hazare today said he will launch ''dharna'' across the State from Gandhi Jayanti day on October 2 if the State Government failed to appoint two more RTI commissioners.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Hazare, who is on a Vidarbha tour to create awareness about the Right to information Act, said as per the Act, at least ten commissioners and a chief commissioner have to be appointed. However, in Maharashtra, only the chief commissioner has been appointed and the government has promised to appoint two commissioners. If these commissioners are not appointed by October 2, ''dharnas'' will be launched across the State, he said.
Mr Hazare said he has, so far, addressed 200 meetings in the State since September 9 and will continue to address the meetings till November 9. ''We have only two vehicles for the tours and my workers provide petrol and diesel,'' he said.
Replying to a question, Mr Hazare said since the people were not fully aware about the RTI Act, they were being misguided by Government officials who never care to provide information to the people.
