DYFI worker killed; call for hartal

Thrissur, Kerala, Sep 25 (UNI) A DYFI worker was hacked to death by a group of people at Kodungallur of the district today.

The deceased was identified as Chembanadan Raju (35) of S N Puram in Mathilakom.

Raju was attacked while he was sleeping at his relative's house.

police said.

His wife Sandhya was seriously injured in the incident and was admitted to a local hospital.

Political vendetta is supposed to be reason behind the attack as Raju was the sixth accused in the murder of BJP Leader Sathyanesan.

Following the incident, tension prevailed in the area and the police have intensified patrolling.

The LDF has called for a hartal in the Kodungallur Assembly constituency to protest the brutal killing.

No arrests have been made so far and the investigations are on, police said.
