Drop move to grant autonomy to JIPMER: Vaiko

Chennai, Sep 25 (UNI) MDMK General Secretary Vaiko today urged the Centre to drop its proposed move to grant autonomy to the Centrally-administered JIPMER Hospital in Puducherry.

In a statement here, Mr Vaiko said the MDMK had expressed its solidarity with the striking medicos who were on an agitation for the last 17 days to protest the Centre's move.

Observing the JIPMER was functioning well under the present set up, Mr Vaiko said the Centre should immediately drop its proposed move on autonomy.

He also demanded withdrawal of all the cases registered against the striking medicos and reinstatement of all the sacked employees of JIPMER.

Mr Vaiko said his party would offer its full support to the dawn-to-dusk bandh tomorrow in the Puducherry-Karaikal Region in support of the agitationists.
