Srinagar, Sep 25 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Governor Lt Gen (Retd) S K Sinha has stressed the need for all possible steps in beautifying the state's summer capital so that it becomes the showcase of the Valley's beauty to the world.
Addressing the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) corporators, who called on him at the Raj Bhavan here, Gen Sinha gave the historical background of Srinagar founded by Ashoka.
He also dwelt on the role played by Mughal Emperor Jehangir in laying mesmerising and magnificent gardens around the city.
The Governor underlined the role of civic bodies in beautifying and up keeping urban areas, hoping that despite resource constrains this important activity will receive due attention of corporators and councilors.
He said corporators have immense responsibility towards the development of areas they represent and society too had to accord due status to their elected representatives.
Responding to the points raised by Mayor Ghulam Mustafa Bhat, Deputy Mayor Salman Sagar and several corporators, Gen Sinha said he will ask the state government to look into their problems.
