Bangladeshi arrested for illegal stay after 26 years
Nagpur, Sep 25 (UNI) A Bangladeshi national was arrested for overstaying and running a fabrication unit in the Butibori MIDC near here and amassing huge wealth illegally, according to the police.
Abdul Majeed Sukur Ali (40) who was arrested yesterday had crossed the border illegally around 26 years back as a boy after an altercation with his father. He worked as a hotel boy and as a labourer in various establishments in Maharashtra before coming to Butibori, where he purchased land in the MIDC twelve years back, police said.
Though not registered as a voter, Abdul managed to get a PAN card, police said. During his stay here, his business flourished and he made huge investments in movable and immovable properties.
Police said that Abdul, a native of Thakurgaon district in Bangladesh, after leaving his home in a huff as a boy, travelled ten kilometres on foot upto Sihol in West Dinajpur district and then reached Malda and, later, Kolkata by train. In Kolkata, he worked in a hotel before coming to Mumbai. From Mumbai he moved to Nashik and finally to Butibori.
