Army intensifies operations against ULFA
Guwahati, Sep 25 (UNI) The Army has moved into the interiors of upper Asom and sealed all exit points to neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland soon after the Army's renewed operation against the ULFA.
'' As expected the militants have mingled with the common people using the terror and intimidation tactics,'' said a defence source from the 2nd Mountain Division, operating out of the Dinjan Division.
The ULFA through its frontal organization like PCPIA have already started building an anti-army campaign, a tactics they had mastered using the human right violation plank.
'' We will give the right reply to the Center's unfortunate decision. They could have waited'' said PCPIA and Peoples Consultative Group (PCG) member Lachit Bordoloi.
Despite the rhetoric, the Army columns movement was more visible in Upper Asom then in lower Asom, although except three Barak valley districts operation have been going on all over the state.
Last night the United Liberation Front of Asom(ULFA) 'corporal' Diganta Baruah, alias Bitupan Baruah, was killed and ten others, including nine army personnel, were injured, in a fierce encounter at Lakhipathar in Upper Asom's Tinsukia district.
Another injured militant, however, managed to escape during the stepped up army operation against the banned organisation. The injured Army personnel included Lt. K D Rathore. The injured personnel were sent to Dinjan Army hospital.
