AP HC Judge closes contempt case against CM, PCC Chief

Hyderabad, Sep 25 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh High Court today closed a suo motu contempt case against Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and PCC President K Keshava Rao for making certain remarks amounting to attributing motives to the judge.

The contempt case was initiated by Justice P S Narayana on August 4, 2006 against the leaders for commenting the Judge. He exceeded his brief while disposing off the case on the validity of the panchayat electoral rolls.

Reacting to press reports, Justice Narayana initiated contempt proceedings against them.

He directed them to show cause as to why they should not be punished under Contempt of Courts Act for deliberately passing remarks which lowered the image of the court. The Judge directed both the parties to respond by August 14.

When the matter came up again today, the counsels appearing for the Chief Minister and the PCC Chief contended that issuance of notice to their clients yielded results and it created an impression among the general public that no person, however highly placed, could not attribute motives to the court.

The counsels further pleaded that carrying the matter ahead would result in conflict between the Chief Minister and the Court.

Thus, it was not in the interest of the institution to prolong the matter any further.

The counsels also informed the court that their clients had regretted of making the indecent comments to the court.

The judge then closed the contempt proceedings saying he never had any personal animosity towards the two leaders.
