Abbas cancels planned talks with Hamas in Gaza

RAMALLAH, West Bank, Sep 25 (Reuters) Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will not travel to Gaza tomorrow as planned to try to revive talks with Hamas on forming a unity government, his spokesman said today.

''The president is not going to Gaza in the near future because he's preoccupied with several appointments,'' spokesman Nabil Abu Rdainah said.

One official said Abbas believed there was no point going to the Gaza Strip after the ruling Hamas movement insisted that any agreement on a unity government would not include recognition of Israel.
