9 college students among 13 held under NDPS Act
Mumbai, Sep 25 (UNI) A local court today remanded 13 persons, including two girls, in police custody till September 29, who were arrested late last evening from Bhayender in Thane district under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
All the 13 were produced before additional chief metropoltian magistrate S Y Shisode this afternoon who remanded them in police custody.
The 13 have been identified as Shakil Ahmed Chandiwala (26), Mansoor Kara (51), Anosh Adil Khabala (21), Harsh Varma (22), Manmohan Khimanand Kadwala (21), P Paul (25), Fabeyan Jokie (28), Andry Fernandes (20), Satish Durgunde (33), B B Kini (26), Akur Trivedi (25), Bhavna Dilip Charliya (22) and Shalakha Umesh Kargulkar (21). One person is still absconding.
The 13 have been arrested under sections 20 (possession), 22 (sale of drugs), 27 (consumption) and 29 (abetting) of the NDPS Act.
Nine of the 13 held are college students who were partying in a shed at Bhayender when drugs were found from their possession.
Defence counsel Rohini Wagh contended before the court that a medical examination of the 13 has not shown any trace of drugs. Around 82 other persons, who had also participated in the party, had been allowd to go by the police after recording their statements.
