83 pc MP farmers associated with cooperatives

Bhopal, Sep 25: Nearly 83 percent farmer families in Madhya Pradesh have been associated with the cooperative movement and every second family as well as every fifth person has adopted the cooperative as their life-style.

Cooperative organisations have been accepted by all sections of landless rural population including fishermen, labourers, mine workers and tendu leaf pluckers, says an official release.

Loans are being provided to farmers having agriculture land on long term, medium term and short term credit facilities.

Special efforts are being made to fulfill the needs of urban population through cooperative and increase has been noted in the number of urban cooperative consumers and credit facility organisations.

''Efforts have been made to free the cooperative movement from the government control,'' the release added.

Special efforts have also been made to ensure the participation of women in cooperatives. At present, 13 Mahila Nagarik Sahakari Banks, 2059 Prathmik Mahila Sahkari Upbhokta Bhandars, 310 Mahila Dugdh Sahkari Samitis, 316 Mahila Sahakari organisations and 2331 Mahila Multipurpose Sahakari Samitis have been registered. Besides, 210 Mahila autonomous cooperatives and 329 Mahila autonomous multipurpose cooperatives have also been registered, taking the total of women's cooperatives to 5644.
