5 brothers sentenced to jail for attempting to murder CO
Lucknow, Sep 25 (UNI) A fast track court in the Uttar Pradesh capital today pronounced a total imprisonment of 21 and a half years to five brothers for attempting to murder an on-duty police officer on May 30 last here.
The maximum imprisonment to any of the accused is 10 years.
Additional District Judge (fast track court) Dharamraj Mishra pronounced imprisonment to the five brothers -- presently lodged in jail -- under section 307 (attempt to murder) and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
On May 30 evening, five accused -- Prithviraj Lohia, Harshvardhan Lohia, Narain Lohia, Udayraj Lohia and Rajnarain Lohia -- were travelling in their jeep fitted with hooter and red beacon light in Chowk area.
When the Circle Officer (Chowk) Rajesh Sahani tried to stop them, the accused tried to flee, but the police officer jumped on to the bonnet of their vehicle.
After travelling for more than four kms, the jeep stopped near Hazratganj with the CO perched atop precariously till then.
A case was registered against them, who later claimed to be relatives of a senior ruling Samajwadi Party leader. The state government also enforced cases under Gangster Act against the five.
