3 convicted on gang-rape charges
Mumbai, Sep 25 (UNI) A local court today sentenced three persons to ten years rigorous imprisonment holding them guilty of gang-raping a 28-year-old woman in Mazgaon here six years back.
Additional sessions judge (Mrs) S S Joshi also directed that Naim Mehboob Pasha, Lahu Lavya Ingle and Suresh Surya Narhire, currently at large on bail, be taken into custody immediately.
According to the prosecution the three had gang-raped the 28-year-old woman, a divorcee, in April 2000. The woman, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, had come to Mumbai three months before the incident in search of a job and was living with her sister here.
The woman had found job as a waitress with a caterer. On the day of the crime, she was going back home when Naim, a person known to her approached her and told her to accompany him to a particular place where her brother-in-law was waiting for them.
On reaching the place, however, she could not find her brother-in-law and realised that she had been misled. Instead, the other two acaused -- Lahu and Suresh were present at the spot. She was gagged and gang-raped, according to the prosecution case.
A complaint was lodged with the Shivdi police on May 31, 2000, and the three miscreants were arrested on the same day.
