Tripura to get 70 crores from German Devp Bank
Agartala, Sept 24: German Development Bank will provide Tripura government Rs 70 crores to develop forest, animal husbandry, agriculture, fishery and jhum cultivation (traditional method of cultivation in hilly areas) in the state.
German Development Bank representative Peter Branny said the state needs to help the Jhumias (farmers associated with Jhum cultivation), to attain self sufficiency in food production, to create alternative job opportunities and protection of the forest resources.
''Our bank will provide some amount first phase and some in the next phase after finalizing the project report,'' Mr Branny said.
Mr Branny and North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Sociology Department Head Prof Nikhilesh Kumar had toured various remote areas of the state to make the spot study regarding the various problems faced by the state.
