Special Session of Karnataka Legislature from tomorrow

Belgaum, Sep 24 (UNI) Karnataka will create history by holding, for the first time, a special Legislative Session in this border district from tomorrow.

The five-day session, according to political leaders, was aimed at sending a strong signal to the neighbouring Maharashtra which raked up the border issue and to the Centre, which withdrew affidavit which was in favour of Karnataka recently.

All the political parties have welcomed the decision to hold the Session in Belgaum. However, the main opposition has taken strong exception for the manner in which decision was taken to hold the session alleging that proper procedure was not followed.

The city has been specially decorated for the occasion.

The Session, would among other things, discuss issues pertaining to North Karnataka and likely to pass legislation on office of profit, besides the border issue. However, there will be no question hour during the Session.

Congress legislator Basavarajraya Reddy, alleging that convening the session was done without following rules as laid down in the constitution, said that he would move a previlage motion against the Chief Minister during the session.

The entire administration has been shifted to Belgaum in view of the session.

The session was held amidst allegations of corruption charges against the Chief Minister by suspended BJP Council member Janardhana Reddy and questioning of Tippu Sultan's love to Kannada by the Higher Education Minister D H Shankara Murthy, who however apologised for raising the issue.
