Rahul will vigorously campaign in UP: Sonia

Nainital, Sep 24: In a clear indication that Rahul Gandhi would play a dominant role in politics in coming days, Congress President Sonia Gandhi today said he would vigorously campaign for the party in the coming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

"Yes, he will be active in Uttar Pradesh," Ms Gandhi said at a press conference here at the conclusion of a two-day conclave of Congress Chief Ministers.

Ms Gandhi said Rahul had been going to Uttar Pradesh from time to time to campaign for the Congres.

She said he had also recently gone to Kanpur with her when she addressed a rally.

Asked how she considered her party's prospects in the asembly polls in the state, she said the Congress was gearing up for the electoral exercise and observed that there been an improvement in its position.

In this connection, Ms Gandhi drew attention to the two rallies she held in Kanpur and Bareilly recently.

Ms Gandhi said the party had divided the state into eight zones.

This was helping the grassroot workers to interact with top party leaders and chalk out strategy for the polls.
