New nursing schools coming up in Asom as more nurses get job
Guwahati, Sep 24 (UNI) Asom Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma today announced that eight new nursing schools will be opened in the state and 2,300 new nurses had been appointed.
Addressing newsmen here, Mr Sharma said, ''The nursing schools are expected to tackle the unemployment issue to a great degree.'' He also informed that 2,300 nurses had been appointed on a contractual basis against fixed salary.
''Altogether 500 sanctioned health sub-centres of the total 5,100 in the state were without nurses. The new nurses will join duty in these sub-centres while some have been allotted to bigger sub-centres which have only one nurse now,'' he said.
Mr Sharma informed that Rs 5 crore each had been sanctioned for setting up the new nursing schools, which would have a student intake of approximately 50 each, for a three-year degree course. The new nursing schools would come up in Goalpara, Kokrajhar, Darrang, Hailakandi, Karimganj, North Cachar Hills, Karbi Anglong and Morigaon districts.
He further said Rs 2 crore each had been sanctioned for the existing 15 nursing schools in the state.
''Another Rs 31.20 crore has been granted for Guwahati Medical College and Hospital and an amount of Rs 120 crore is in process for approval,'' he added.
