Mizoram govt sacks 152 college lecturers

Aizawl, Sep 24 (UNI) Mizoram government has sacked about 152 lecturers, engaged in different colleges on fixed pay basis, who had been on strike for two weeks.

Higher and Technical Education (HTE) department has asked the principal of all government colleges to fill up the lecturers' post on a temporary basis.

Mr H Vanlalkeuva, Joint Director, HTE department, said the government had no option but to terminate the employment of these lecturers since they had not cooperated with the department.

''Actually, their term has been over since November last year'', he said adding ''if they still needed the job we are ready to re-employ them at similar status''.

A total of 152 lecturers had been hired for different degree colleges of the state and all of them were terminated from their service yesterday.

However, 32 lecturers have been taken back after they apologised and promised not to be in the strike.
