Meghalaya govt inks MoU for STP
Shillong, Sep 24 (UNI) The Meghalaya government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Software Technology Park of India (STPI) for setting up a software technology park here.
The MoU was signed by Mr Pankaj Jain, Commissioner and Secretary of Meghalaya Information Technology Department and Mr Prabir Kumar Das, Director of Software Technology Park of India (STPI), an autonomous body of the Union Communication and IT Ministry in the presence of State Minister in-charge Information and Technology Robert Garnett Lyngdoh and STPI Director General S N Jindal yesterday.
The government had already handed over the Meghalaya Watch Company complex and contributed Rs one crore to STPI for setting up the park.
The proposed software technology park and the IT Policy adopted by the state government are expected to help create an IT revolution in the state. The datacom facility of STPI will enable the STP units of Shillong to have connectivity with foreign countries.
Shillong will be the fourth city in the Northeast after Guwahati, Imphal and Gangtok to have a software technology park. The STPI has already established 47 centres across the country so far.
