Heart donation should be made feasible : Dr Warrier
Kochi, Sep 24 (UNI) Eminent cardiac surgeon P K R Warrier today urged the medical and legal fraternity to make heart donation a feasible option to save lives.
Delivering his acceptance speech after receiving Life Time Achievement award instituted by the Health Care Foundation on the occasion of 'World Heart Day' here, Dr Warrier said legal aspects had to be clear to make heart donations feasible and realistic.
Earlier, Justice Kurian Joseph of Kerala High court launched the ambitious programme of the foundation to provide free treatment for 1,000 cardiac patients in the state.
Foundation chairman Jose Chacko said the project would focus on patients who cannot afford proper treatment for heart problems.
He said the number of patients dying without proper treatment was on the rise as around 60 per cent of the cardiac patients in the state had financial constraints in meeting healthcare bills.
Dr Jose said the project would be implemented through government and semi-government hospitals in the state.
To make people more aware of the heart ailments a public awareness book was also released by District Collector Mohammad Haneesh.
As part of the awareness programme, cine actor Suresh Gopi gave away heart band to cricketer S Sreeshant on the occasion.
