Five Assam Rifles personnel killed in a clash
Silchar, Sep 24 (UNI) Five Assam Rifles personnel were killed and three injured when a group of jawans, engaged in an altercation among themselves, suddenly started firing near Kadamtala base at Jiribam last night.
Assam Rifles sources said here today that the incident occurred when at least eight personnel were engaged in exchange of words inside their vehicle while returning to base after completing regular patrolling in militancy-prone Cachar.
Suddenly Lance naik Ksathave Singh opened fire at his colleagues from his automatic rifle. The other jawans also retaliated.
In the ensuing exchange of fire, five personnel were killed in the spot and three sustained injuries.
The injured were admitted to Army hospital at Mashimpur near Silchar.
Investigation was on.
