Exercise for a 'brave heart': rally spreads message
Chennai, Sep 24 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Health Minister K K S S R Ramachandran today led a rally in which people from various walks of life participated in ''Cycling, Skating, Run and Walk'' to mark the World Heart Day here today.
The participants released heart-shaped red and white balloons in the air at the rally organised by Bharat Scans and Specialities Ltd, South India's premier diagnostic centre.
In all, 2006 people, marking the year, drawn from various walks of life, took part in the rally held on the Marina, aimed at creating awareness about general health and heart care among people.
After flagging off the rally, Mr Ramachandran administered an oath of good health to the participants, who pledged to abstain from smoking, drinking, avoid junk foods and exercise regularly.
Joint Commissioner of Police M Ravi, Dr A Rajasekaran, President, National Board of Examinations (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare), Actor Vivek and Television personality Baski were the chief guests for the mega rally.
A free cardiac care camp was held on the occasion at AIEMA Technology Centre in Ambattur as a conclusion of the walkathon, which city police commissioner Lethika Saran inaugurated.
Talking about the rally, Dr R Emmanueal said with people getting busier in their career and other pursuits and leading a sedentary life, the importance of exercise and fitness was being given a go by.
