DPA reaches agreement on seat sharing in local bodies poll
Chennai, Sep 24 (UNI) The AIADMK led Democratic People's Alliance (DPA) has reached an agreement over the seat sharing for the ensuing local bodies poll in Tamil Nadu.
In a statement here, AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa said the MDMK would contest on 17.5 per cent of the seats and the Dalit Panthers of India four per cent.
AIADMK would contest on around 75 per cent of the seats.
Ms Jayalalithaa said the decision was the outcome of the talks held with the poll committee members of the respective alliance parties over the last three days.
The other partners, including the Indian Union Muslim League, Moovendar Munnetra Kazhagam, Indian National League, Indian Farmers and Toilers Party, Janata Dal(S), Tamil Maanila Muslim League, Republican Party of India, Christian Munnetra Kazhagam and the Social Justice Party have also been given seats, she said.
The AIADMK-led DPA instead of announcing the names of specific corporations, municipalities, town panchayats and other local bodies to be contested by the alliance partners had only announced the percentage of seats.
