CII's summit to focus on deepening debt market

Mumbai, Sept 24: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is organising its first Capital Markets Summit on 27 September in Mumbai on the theme ''Financing Infrastructure through Capital Markets'' with special focus on deepening the debt markets.

This forum will bring together financial institutions, corporates, investment bankers, brokers, other financial intermediaries and the investing community at large on a common platform, a CII release here said.

The strong growth momentum in economy will pose challenges in terms of greater need for capital, especially from the productive sectors of the economy. The key question is, will the financial and capital markets be equipped to meet the emerging financing needs of the economy? Infrastructure, a key growth driver, alone will require more than USD 331 billion in investments in the next five years.

Well performing matured Financial Markets are needed to compliment and aid the fast paced economic growth process. CII is of the view that certain reforms are required to address the current issues and constraints that affect efficient operations of the financial and capital market.
