Boy kidnap case cracked, four arrested
Chennai, Sep 24 (UNI) In a major breakthrough the city police today solved the kidnapping case of a boy, with the arrest of four people within 48 hours of his abduction.
Chennai City Police Commissioner Ms Letika Saran told reporters here that the mastermind behind the kidnapping of the 11-year-old school boy demanding a ransom of Rs 60 lakh, was Thambidurai, who happened to be the brother-in-law of the boy's mother.
The boy, Alexander, studying in sixth standard in a private school, was abducted by an unidentified gang on Friday evening. The gang demanded a ransom of Rs 60 lakh.
As 15 special police teams launched a massive manhunt to nab the abductors, the gang realising that they would not get the ransom, dropped the boy near his residence at Shastri Nagar yesterday evening.
Ms Letika Saran said at least ten people were involved in this kidnap, of which some had played a small role and few others had a major role.
She said Thambidurai and three others, including a woman, who held the boy captive on the instructions of the mastermind, were arrested.
Police were on the look out for other members of the gang, she said and complimented the police officials for cracking the case within 48 hours.
