Attract foreign investments through proper channel: BSE COO

Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 24 (UNI) Bombay Stock Exchange Chief Operating Officer Ashok Kumar Rout today stressed on the need to attract foreign investments through proper channel.

Delivering the keynote address at a function here to mark the grant of ISO 9001:2000 certfication to Capsoks and Securities (India) Pvt Ltd, he said this was necessary to avoid certain types of investors whose actions were not desirable in the interest of market staiblity.

''Indian stock market is the fastest growing market in the world both in terms of equity and commodity markets,'' a release quoting Mr Rout said here.

Though there was an undeniable role for foreign capital inflows in supplementing domestic savings to accelerate the economic growth of the country, the types of access made available to foreign portfolio investors must be checked, he cautioned.

Mr Rout said with communication revolution and transnationals setting up shop, the state had achieved tremendous growth in the stock market during the last five years.

He also spoke on the necessity of attracting more retail investors to Kerala whose participation was much lower than other Southern counterparts like Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
