Swamy lauds PM for refusal to meet SL Tamil MPs
Chennai, Sep 23: Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy today welcomed the stand taken by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh not to meet some Tamil MPs from Sri Lanka and said Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi must follow suit.
Addressing a press conference here, he said the Prime Minister's decision to not meet the Tiger nominated agents - MPs, was tantamount to respecting the memory of Rajiv Gandhi.
When told about the Tamil MPs being in Chennai to meet Mr Karunanidhi, Dr Swamy said he would appreciate Mr Karunanidhi also if the latter refuses to meet the MPs.
Dr Swamy also criticised AIADMK General Secretary and former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa questioning her party's relationsip with MDMK and Dalit Panthers of India (DPI), which have been overtly supporting the militant LTTE.
Asked about Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TNMMK) protesting against Jayalailthaa's remarks about IAS officer Syed Munir Hoda, Dr Swamy said the AIADMK leader was entitled to her opinion.
Dr Swamy also reiterated that the Tamil Nadu government must take steps to raise the water level in the Mullaperiyar dam to 142 feet from the present 136 feet, in the wake of the Supreme Court judgment.
