Subodh Sahay for lab to test edible oil adulteration
Mumbai, Sep 23: Subodh Kant Sahai, Minister of State for food processing industries, has urged the city-based premier trade body 'Solvent Extractors' Association' (SEA) of India to collobrate with Industry Chambers like Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FICCI) for setting up of a labortary to test adulteration in edible oils.
After presenting the 19th SEA awards, he said that the proposal of food standard bill will have build mechanism to prevention adulteration in edible oils. The bill is likely to be pass in Rajya Sabha soon as it has already been passed in Lok Sabha.
The demand for edible oils is expected to increase from the current level of 12.0 million tonne to 15.6 million tonne in 2010 and 21.3 million tonne by 2015. This assumes a per capita consumption increase of four per cent and a population growth of 1.9 per cent which translates to an overall growth in demand at the rate of six per cent per annum.
