The demand for edible oils is expected to increase from the current level of 12.0 million tonne to 15.6 million tonne in 2010 and 21.3 million tonne by 2015. This assumes a per capita consumption increase of four per cent and a population growth of 1.9 per cent which translates to an overall growth in demand at the rate of six per cent per annum.
