Six more arrested in 'Sati' incident
Chhatarpur, MP, Sep 23 (UNI) Six more people were arrested in connection with the 'sati' incident in this district's Banyani village, police said today.
With the arrest, a total of 10 people, including four sons of 95-year-old Karouyya Devi, who sat on her husband's pyre on September 20, had been arrested.
As per official information, Chandidin, Harpal, Gambhir Singh, Bhagirath, Brijpal and Ramavtar alias Bada were arrested yesterday under section 302/34 IPC and the Sati (Prevention) Act, 1987.
Earlier, the woman's sons -- Drigpal, Baldu, Kripal and Kuber -- were arrested on September 20.
Superintendent of Police Chanchal Shekhar told UNI that the situation was in control and villagers were being advised not to fall prey to superstitions.
Women and Child Development Minister Kusum Singh Mehdele, MP State Women Commission member Saroj Rajput and Krishnakant Rajput visited the village yesterday and directed action against the village's sarpanch, patwari and chowkidar in the matter.
