SAD-BJP leaders ask Gov to dismiss Punjab CM

Chandigarh, Sep 23: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the BJP today sought the dismissal of the Congress government headed by Capt Amarinder Singh for his alleged involvement in the Rs 2100 crore Ludhiana City Centre scam.

The two parties also sought the registration of a criminal case against the Chief Minister under the Prevention of Corruption Act for his involvement in the scam.

A delegation of the SAD-BJP led by former Chief Minister and SAD chief Parkash Singh Badal called on Governor Gen (retd) S F Rodrigues and briefed him about the scam. They also presented a memorandum to him.

The two parties also called upon the Governor to institute a CBI probe into the entire scam with focus on the role of the Chief Minister, the Minister for Local Bodies, Chaudhary Jagjit Singh and the former Chairman of the now dissolved Ludhiana Improvement trust, Mr Paramjit Singh Sibia.

The memorandum alleged that the Chief Minister had betrayed the trust reposed in him as custodian of the people's interest.

The delegation also sought a judicial enquiry into the repression and molestation of girl students by the Punjab Police personnel in Ludhiana on Thursday. The delegation sought the Governor's intervention to give exemplary punishment to the guilty officials and a public apology from the Chief Minister for his ''shameless'' jusitification of the police brutality.

The Governor assured the delegation that he would do everything possible to ensure justice in the matter.
