Poonam Dhillon hints plunging into active politics
Varanasi, Sep 23 (UNI) Admitting that she wanted to become a civil servant and not an actor, former Bollywood beauty Poonam Dhillon hinted at becoming a full time politician, instead of serving crowd pullers to political parties during elections.
"Film stars have largely essayed the role of glamorous crowd pullers at rallies of political parties during elections, but once the election season is over, the same film stars working for a social cause have to knock at the doors of the politicos for getting their public work done,'' said Poonam, who made her Bollywood debut in 1978 in a Big B starrer 'Trishool,' yesterday.
''Why not be in active politics on our own,?'' said the 44-year-old actor, who now wants to host a TV talk show, besides acting in Bhojpuri films.
''I have acted in over 90 Hindi films, besides many Bengali, Punjabi and other regional language films, except Bhojpuri. I would certainly like to star in Bhojpuri flicks, which unlike the big budget Hindi movies, take only two to three months to complete,'' said the actor who is accredited with introducing the concept of make-up vans in the country.
The actor, who runs an NGO for street children, however, still harbours one regret of not being able to become a civil servant. ''I entered filmdom at a tender age of 16, which marred my aspirations of becoming a civil servant.'' UNI ARS PB AD BS0904
