PM concerned over internal security situation
Nainital, Sept 23: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today identified terrorism, naxal violence and communal disturbances as the three main challenges to his government on the internal security front and asked the states to coordinate among themselves as also with the centre in dealing with these challenges.
''Dealing with the challenges on the internal security front is our foremost concern,'' he said, addressing a two-day conclave of Congress Chief Ministers here.
Referring to Jammu and Kashmir, Dr Singh said the overall effort of the government was to ensure that the people of the states led a life of peace, dignity and self-respect and become a partner in economic and social development of the nation.
However, he noted that attempts were being made by terrorist elements to prevent the return of normalcy to the state by launching grenade attacks on tourists.
He noted that there had been a decline in infiltration from across the border though some upsurge had been noticed in recent days.
