One fisherman dies, 9 hospitalised after taking methanol
Rameswaram, Sep 23 (UNI) One fisherman died and nine others were hospitalised here after they consumed methanol mistaking it to be arrack.
Police said the fishermen spotted a can floating in the sea at Arichamunai near Dhanushkodi in the southern tip of Rameswaram on September 20. It bore a sticker- 'methanol' and they found some yellow coloured substance in it.
All the ten consumed the substance.
Six of them complained of throat irritation, giddiness and vomiting and were admitted to the government hospital here, on September 21.
Four others too had similar complaints and were admitted to hospital yesterday.
One Mr Munaiswamy died at the hospital and others were convalescing.
An investigation was underway, police added.
