Nano laboratory inaugurated
Bangalore, Sep 23 (UNI) India is keen to work with leaders in cutting edge nano technology including Japan, Germany and United States to improve the quality of the life of the common man, Union Minister for Science and Technology Kapil Sibal said here today.
Speaking after inagurating the Nano Laboratory at the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) here today Mr Sibal expressed confidence that establishment of relationship with the leaders in nano technology at the International level would open up door to a lot of opportunities in India.
Mr sibal said the centre had decided to set up an International center of excellence in nanotechnology on Material science at JNCASR Bangalore and would be developed as the nucleus of research and development activities in the field of nanotechnology.
Acknowledging the importance of nanotechnology the department of Science and Technology had decided to spend over Rs 1,000 crore for the emerging cutting-edge technology and a proposal of Rs 180 crore was already before the cabinet for approval. He said during the last two years over Rs 70 to 80 crores had been spent to set up Research centres on Nano Science across the country.
