Minority Comm. asks K'taka Minister to retract anti-Tipu remarks
Bangalore, Sep 23 (UNI) Strongly condemning Karnataka Higher Education Minister D H Shankaramurthy terming Tipu Sultan an anti-Kannadiga, State Minority Commission Chairman K S Mohammed Masood today demanded Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy to direct the Minister to retract his remarks and tender an apology.
In a statement here, he said Tipu Sultan, who had given a progressive rule to Kannadigas and had gone to the extent of pledging his children for the sake of the State's sovereignty, was highly regarded for his secular character. The Minister had shown disrespect by issuing ''baseless and unwarranted'' statement against Tipu, hailed as a great son of the country, thus hurting millions of Muslims in the country, he added.
