Five new meet records on third day

Bangalore, Sep 23 (UNI) Five New Meet Records were created, even as international swimmer Rehan Poncha of Karnataka, Arjun Muralidharan of Police and V Tejasvini of Karnataka claimed their second gold on the third day of the LIC 60th Senior National Aquatic Championship here today.

Hirutika Shriram of Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) created a new meet record by amassing 189.55 points in one metre Spring Board Diving event. She erased the four-year-old record of her colleague Mamoni Mondal (186.10 points).

Poncha bettered his last year's performance in 400 m freestyle with a timing of four minute 08.71 seconds to win the gold. His earlier record was four minutes 09.18 seconds. Rohit Hawaldar of Karnataka and Amar Muralidharan of Police had to be content with silver and bronze respectively.

Poncha had won gold yesterday in the individual medley by improving on his own record.

He, however, failed to maintain his tempo in the 200 m backstroke as Arjun Muralidharan bagged the gold by swimming in two minutes 10.65 seconds, erasing the two-year-old record in the name of T K Senthil Kumar of Police (two minutes 11.97 seconds).
