CM orders special girdawari for crops damaged by rain, hail
Chandigarh, Sep 23 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh today instructed the Financial Commissioner (Revenue) to order a ''special girdawari'' for the damage caused to crops due to rain and hailstorms in various districts of the state.
He further asked the Financial Commissioner to compile district wise report of the damage caused to crops and submit a comprehensive report within three days so that the Government could take necessary steps to mitigate the loss to farmers.
As per the preliminary reports available with the Chief Minister's office, there has been extensive damage to cotton crop in about 14 villages in Abohar area of Ferozepur district while substantial damage to paddy crop has been reported in Ferozepur, Fazilka and Jalalabad areas.
Similarly, in Baghapurana area of Moga district, both cotton and paddy crops have been damaged. The yield of cotton is expected to have been adversely reduced by three to four per cent and that of paddy by about 10 to 15 per cent. The dis-colouring of paddy is about five to ten per cent.
In contrary, maize crop and charry yield have suffered considerably in Bassi area of Fatehgarh Sahib district due to dry weather.
