Arunachal BJP welcomes MoU signing, opposes privatisation
Itanagar, Sep 23 (UNI) Although Arunachal Pradesh BJP unit today welcomed the signing of MoUs between state government and three power giants of the country it opposed privatisation of the five power projects in the Siang basins.
In a press conference here today, BJP state president Tapen Siga said the decision over five projects to be implemented by Reliance Energy, D S Construction and J P Associates would pose a threat to the socio-economic condition of the people here.
'' The Detailed Project Reports for these projects have been prepared by the National Hydro Electric Power Corporation (NHPC) incurring heavy expenditure and handing them to private parties would create hinderances in development activities,'' Mr Siga said.
NHPC, a central public sector undertaking, should be allowed to carry the project so that employment opportunities as well as various facilities could be availed by the indigenous people of the state, the BJP president advocated.
Mr Siga also lamented that he was not invited during MoU inking and said the state government had rejected the party's plea meet the Power minister for submitting a memo, which he send it later by post.
