AGP MLAs refuse to accept Goswami's resignation

Guwahati, Sep 23 (UNI) All the 24 MLAs of the Opposition Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) today denied to accept party president Brindabon Goswami's decision to resign from the post of AGP legislature party's (AGPLP) leader.

Talking to mediapersons today, the AGP MLA Ramen Kalita informed that the AGPLP meeting yesterday had decided not to accept Mr Goswami's resignation.

''We understand that Mr Goswami wants to devote more time in steering the party effectively keeping in view the forthcoming panchayat polls,'' he said However, the AGPLP meeting decided not to accept Mr Goswami's resignation as they felt him capable of discharging responsibilities as party's president and leader simultaneously, Mr Kalita said.

Mr Goswami had decided to step down as the AGPLP's chief and focus on organising the panchayat elections next year.

About the reports of reunification with the breakaway AGP (Progressive) led by Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, Mr Kalita said it would be soon decided within the party forum.
