Water resource regulatory authority for Arunachal on anvil
Itanagar, Sep 22 (UNI) The Arunachal Pradesh cabinet has given a nod for constituting a water resource regulatory authority to regulate all the water resources of the state and its proper utility for socio-economic development of this under-developed state.
The authority, under the nomenclature of Arunachal Pradesh Water Resources Regulatory Authority (APWRRA) got the cabinet clearance on September 20 last, informed state irrigation and flood control (IFCD) minister Tako Dabi in a press conference here today.
He said, Arunachal Pradesh with abundant water resources could boost its economy through harnessing all the available water for its optimal use.
The body, second of its kind in the country, would work out plan for bringing entire rivers water under accountability, so that it could be used for irrigation and drinking water besides other use, he informed adding, there would be a state water planning body under the APWRRA.
''The concept of the APWRRA is still in a draft form and it would be transformed into an act in the next assembly session,'' he said adding the body would look after the purity and volume of river water for its use in various purposes without encroaching upon the activities of other departments concerned.
