Veerappan associate surrenders before judicial magistrate
Chennai, Sept 22 (UNI) Alapakkam Murugesan, a close associate of slain forest brigand Veerappan, who was absconding, today surrendered before the Judicial Magistrate Court, Maduranthagam.
A police press release here said the Cuddalore police and Q branch CID police, after forming special teams had been monitoring his movements.
The magistrate remanded him to 15 days judicial custody, after which, he will be lodged in Cuddalore central prison.
Murugesan was an active cadre of the banned Taml Nadu Liberation Army (TNLA) and a close aid of Veerappan. He was arrested in 1994 in connection with the Kullanchavadi police station attack case and came out on bail in 1999 on condition that he should report to the Q branch CID police, Cuddalore every Monday.
However, he has been on the run for the past six years. He was wanted in connection with the Puthur Police station attack case and bomb blast at Gandhi statue at Villupuram.
Following the pressure mounted on him by the special teams, Murugesan surrendered in the court, the release said.
